About 50 protests are being held with the majority in British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario, but two are planned for Saskatchewan.

The main focus is the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s (CFIA) actions at the Universal Ostrich Farm near Edgewood, B.C which culminated with the shooting of more than 300 ostriches on November 6-7.

The owners of the farm had been fighting the cull that was ordered following an outbreak of avian influenza in late 2024.  Sixty-nine ostriches died but the majority survived.  The Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal after two lower courts ruled in favor of the CFIA.

Farmers Protest Canada says its mission is to defend the rights of farmers, protect Canada’s food security, and expose growing government overreach. The plan is to have coordinated slow roll convoys and city demonstrations to demand accountability and transparency from the CFIA and federal government.

The Farmers Protest Canada Facebook page shows two events in Saskatchewan, one in Saskatoon and the other in Moose Jaw. Organizers have informed participants of the Saskatoon event to meet on the south end of Martensville around 10:30am. There will be a slow roll to Saskatoon City Hall for a noon hour gathering.
