City of Saskatoon embracing AI

The City of Saskatoon is embracing change and getting on board with artificial intelligence.

After laying the foundation between 2022 and 2025, the City has outlined a 2026-2029 Strategic Plan which highlights Ai as a way of creating efficiencies in the delivery of services to the public.

Several key initiatives are scheduled to begin in early 2026. These include establishing an intake process for Ai and other innovative solutions, publishing an ‘Ai Register’ to document solutions already in use at the City, identifying departmental ‘use cases’ for employing AI, and selecting and prioritizing ‘pilot’ projects that apply Ai to departmental operations.

Several Ai technologies and programs are already being utilized by the City, such as Ai weapon detection and behavioral analytics at bus stops, predictive maintenance and repair planning for transit buses, and Ai-generated text-to-speech for training materials.
