Eighteen-year-old Melissa Charles has been identified as the victim of a serious assault that occurred in the northern community, located about an hour northeast of La Ronge.

RCMP located Charles and an injured man in front of a residence on Charles Street in Grandmother’s Bay.  Charles was declared dead on the scene by paramedics. The man was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

RCMP arrested a suspect in the community shortly after the incident.

Twenty-six-year-ol Keyland McLeod of Grandmother’s Bay is charged with one count of second degree murder, one count of assault with a weapon and one count of uttering threats. McLeod appeared in La Ronge Provincial Court on Monday.
