Saskatchewan has ordered its doses of flu and Covid-19 vaccines for the upcoming immunization season.
Saskatchewan Health Authority Medical Health Officer Dr. Simon Kapaj says the process usually begins in mid-October, but residents will be able to start booking appointments online anytime now.
He says the SHA is seeing a slight increase of Covid-19 cases at this time, which are usually mild infections, but they can lead to more serious consequences.
“This type of spread puts at risk the most vulnerable in our community, such as children, elderly, people that live in long term care centres, private care homes and group homes.”
Dr. Kapaj adds that people are encouraged to get the flu and covid-19 shots during the same appointment so they can stay protected.
“I think there will be a screening available for each individual as usual, but definitely that is the plan. It would be good to get both.”
He says Saskatchewan is very good at estimating how many doses will be needed, so there should be more than enough for everyone who wants one.
