Original: While Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes remains in the Weyburn area investigating the suspicious shooting death of a 44-year-old woman, Weyburn RCMP are also dealing with reports of a potential impersonation of a police officer.
According to a Saskatchewan RCMP news release, the Weyburn detachment received a report around 10:40 p.m. Saturday and were able to determine that, while an individual was driving on a grid road near Midale, a vehicle came up behind them flashing blue and red emergency lights. As both vehicles slowed down, the vehicle with blue and red lights fled.
The vehicle is described as a granite grey heavy-duty truck with a flat deck and heavy-duty rack, believed to be a 2000s-model Chevrolet. The red and blue lights were mounted near the rearview mirror in the front windshield. Weyburn RCMP asks anyone who believes they are being followed by an imitation police vehicle to contact the RCMP immediately or through Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers.
RCMP say the owner/driver of a vehicle and trailer believed to be in the vicinity at the time a 44-year-old woman was shot on Friday, has been identified. Major Crimes investigators say they are not connected to the suspicious death investigation. R-C-M-P say two women were in a Ford Explorer on Highway 39 around 8 p-m Friday, driving near grain elevators toward Weyburn, when there was a loud crack. It was gunfire and a bullet entered the SUV striking a 44-year-old woman from Weyburn who was a passenger. She died at the scene.
