Ten athletes have been awarded the For the Love of Curling Scholarship, intended for young Canadian athletes who excel in curling, maintain a good level of academic standing and demonstrate a strong commitment to their communities.

An additional 10 athletes are being recognized with the Fran Todd All Heart Scholarship for Canadian student-athletes who embody the values of curling, place a high priority on giving back to the sport and are passionate about sharing curling with their community.

“Through the two unique streams of our scholarship program, we’re proud to be investing equally in the future builders and future champions of our sport,” said Brodie Bazinet, Curling Canada’s Director of Philanthropy & Youth Impacts. “Once again this year, our selected recipients, along with so many of the incredible applicants, have showcased how they’re balancing their passion for curling with their giving-back leadership in the community.”

The Governor General’s Curling Club is once again playing an integral role in providing its support to the future of the sport. Two of the scholarships are funded in their entirety and presented by the honourary society under the patronage of the Governor General of Canada since 1874.

All 20 scholarships are worth $2,500 each.

With the two scholarships awarded to Alderson and Grattan, the Governor General’s Curling Club has invested $17,500 in young curling athletes as a valued partner of Curling Canada’s scholarship program.

Grattan and Alderson will be honoured at the Governor General’s Curling Club’s annual gala in Fredericton on Sept. 8, attending either in person or virtually.

Since the scholarship program’s launch in 2014, Curling Canada has awarded scholarships to 170 young curlers nationwide, helping to offset education costs while encouraging continued involvement in the sport.

Curling Canada’s For the Love of Curling philanthropic program, introduced during the 2013-14 season to help develop and grow youth and junior curling across Canada, received more than $382,802 in donations and grants last season. The generous support of Canada’s curling community makes programs such as The Egg Farmers Rocks & Rings presented by Curling Canada, Girls Rock, presented by Scotties, and the Scholarship Program possible.
