A man from Red Pheasant Cree Nation pleaded guilty to unlawful outfitting in the Wilkie area.
On October 11, 2024, North Battleford Conservation Officers were investigating the matter when they observed a vehicle believed to be involved in unlawful hunting. Officers attempted a traffic stop to conduct a compliance check, but the vehicle fled not once, but twice. Despite the use of tire deflation devices, the vehicle continued to flee before being tracked to a home on the Red Pheasant Cree Nation.
Elliot Meechance was charged on July 31 in North Battleford Provincial Court. He was sentenced to 379 days in custody followed by two years’ probation, a one-year driving prohibition and three-year hunting suspension. An American resident that he guided illegally was also fined $1,400.
