A report being presented to Saskatoon’s Governance and Priority Committee tomorrow details several new roles the City could take to help address the homelessness crisis.
Although the City already works to mitigate the issue in numerous ways, such as advocating for operational funding and allocating land for affordable housing, Administration is suggesting that the City take a more meaningful role in the process.
If approved by the committee, and then by City Council, this could look like pursuing additional collaborative funding partnerships, developing incentives for vacant and boarded up properties, and creating an incentives program for conversion, repair and renovations of affordable housing units, among other things.
These new initiatives would combine to finalize the Saskatoon Homelessness Action Plan, or SHAP, which has been in the works since 2015.
