It’s my Parting Shot for Week 6 C-F-L picks from T-F-P…..
With only three games on this week’s slate, that means The Fearless Predictor either has a good week or a bad week – no in between like last week!
I’ll save tonight’s game until last, so let’s have a look at tomorrow’s Ottawa at Hamilton contest. These are two teams who were supposed to be Grey Cup contenders in the pre-season prognostications from many of the so-called know-it-alls. But, the RedBlacks are a dismal 1-4 and head coach Bob Dyce has to be feeling the heat while the Tiger-Cats are 2-2 and coming on as Bo Levi Mitchell and Kenny Lawler have found their passer-receiver chemistry, big time, the last two weeks. The recent trends will continue into real streaks – three straight wins and three consecutive losses – as Hamilton bounces Ottawa by more than two touchdowns!
Sunday’s offering is B-C at Edmonton. Again, two teams who were pre-season picks by many to make some noise. The 2-3 Lions returned to roar last week with the return of Nathan Rourke at quarterback while the Elks finally won for the first time in four games this year – and won at home in July for the first time in four years – by confounding people with their strategy of using both Tre Ford and “Corn Dog” Cody Fajardo under centre. This one is a tough call as a B-C win puts them into the playoff mix immediately while an Edmonton victory leaves both teams behind the eight ball when it comes to the post-season. I’m going with the Elks by less than a field goal!
Which brings us to tonight – the 4-0 Saskatchewan Roughriders at home to 3-1 Calgary. Here’s a chance for the Green and White to put their stamp on a first place finish – even though it’s only approaching mid-June and there’s 70 per cent of the season still to go. But, I also know that a large portion of Rider Nation has a fatalistic attitude towards their football heroes, and it’s in full frightened mode for this week! And, they have good reason for that, because I’m going with Calgary by a field goal!
Last week’s 2-2 week left me with a 12-8 overall predictions record. I could use a 3-0 – or at least a 2-1, so long as my miss is the Saskatchewan result – as I head into two weeks of holidays! But, I will be watching the C-F-L while I’m away – in fact I’ll be at next Friday’s Calgary at Winnipeg game! I’ll be back at this time on July 28th!!
That’s my Parting Shot. I’m Les Lazaruk…and it turned out nice again!
