Saskatchewan NDP Leader Carla Beck is more excited for Canada Day this year than ever before, as the party is launching a new campaign to pass its Keep Saskatchewan In Canada Act.
A release from the NDP says the campaign, launching on the eve of Canada Day, comes as Donald Trump’s threats against Canada’s sovereignty continue to grow.
The campaign includes an online petition at KeepSaskatchewanInCanada.ca.
MLAs will also be canvasing from door to door with the petition this summer, urging the provincial government to pass the Keep Saskatchewan in Canada Act. If passed, the Act would prevent the Premier and Cabinet from unilaterally calling a referendum on separation, as well as double the threshold for citizen petitions for a separation vote – from 15 per cent to 30 per cent of eligible voters.
