As of Thursday, the Co-op Refinery Complex in Regina has been serving Western Canada for 90 years. 

Co-op Communications Director Brad DeLorey says the CRC came from humble beginnings when eight farmers joined together to create a small, 500-barrel-per-day facility. 

“Ninety years later, we now have a 130,000 barrel-per-day facility, and to put that into perspective, that is 17 million litres of fuel products leaving the refinery on a daily basis into our co-operative retail system and into 650 communities in Western Canada.”

He says the products that come out of the refinery play a key role in fueling family vehicles, transport trucks, and the agriculture sector.  

“We will continue to fuel Western Canada for years to come. We’re not sure what that might look like in the future, but present day, we continue to produce the fuel that western Canadians need and get it to market.”

He adds that CRC is one of Canada’s largest and most integrated refining and upgrading complexes.  

“we’re a vital economic engine here in Regina, employing more than 900 people,” he explains.

To celebrate the milestone, over 1000 current and former employees are gathering at the refinery for a ceremony, alongside the premier and the mayor.
