Last year’s slate of city councilors spent a total of $29,188 on travel related expenses according to a report presented to Saskatoon’s Governance and Priorities Committee today.

In 2024, the City allocated $35 thousand to individual, business-related travel and training expenses. At year end, just $9,595 had been utilized, mostly so that councilors Troy Davies and Randy Donauer could attend the Federation of Canadian Municipalities conference in Calgary. Councilor Zach Jeffries also spent $3,087 on various meetings in Ottawa.

A common travel and training fund is also budgeted for each year. In 2024, this amount was $24 thousand, however only $7,560 was used. Councilor Mairen Loewen made use of all but 40 of those dollars to attend FCM conferences in Prince George, Calgary and Ottawa.

Councilors are also reimbursed for using their personal vehicle for City business. Councilor Bev Dubois claimed the most milage last year and was owed $3,315.20. Councilor Jeffries took second place with $2,485.70. Of the $15,000 budgeted to cover these travel expenses, $12,033 was spent.
