The damaged section of the sanitary sewer main caused by a fire from an encampment under the University Bridge last week has been repaired and wastewater flow has been reintroduced to the repaired pipe without issue., but traffic restrictions remain in place. In a news release the City of Saskatoon says the bypass piping hasn’t been removed yet as a precaution, but that work will begin at 9 Tuesday morning.
When that happens, there will be additional lane closures on the bridge. Both westbound lanes will be temporarily closed for the removal of the piping on the walkway. There will be one lane of traffic in each direction until the work is finished, which is expected to take crews until around 5 p.m. Tuesday, weather permitting and barring any unforeseen circumstances.
The north walkway of the bridge is closed but the south walkway is open. Meewasin Trail underneath the east side of the bridge and the walkway under the far west end of the bridge are closed, but the Trail on the west side remains open.
