Carlyle RCMP say there’s a fake gold scam doing the rounds. Mid-September the detachment received a report that a motorist approached another motorist and asked them for gas money then offered a gold rink in exchange for additional money. A few days later on the west side of the province Shaunavon RCMP received a similar report.
RCMP say the jewellery is not genuine gold and holds little value.
If you are approached by someone trying to sell gold jewelry, do not follow through with their request instead call the police. The incidents, the Mounties say, are part of a trend of potential fraudsters approaching people in parking lots, gas stations, or other public locations and offering “gold jewelry” in exchange for money.
