Starting at noon on Monday, Saskatoon’s downtown will be bustling with Canada Day activities for the whole family.

That from Shad Ali with On Purpose Leadership the day will begin with a smudge and Indigenous presentations, followed by bouncy castles, contests and prizes in Rotary Park, food trucks from numerous countries near the traffic bridge, and face painting, balloon art, birthday cake and cultural performances at River Landing.

“Take a moment and reflect on what Canada means to you. What it is to share Treaty 6 and the homeland of the Metis,” he suggests.

“It’s what we called a respectful honouring of our nation. Canada Day can be a bit trying for some folks, and we totally understand and get that. There are things we need to know, understand, and learn more about, but there are also things that we can honour and celebrate about this great country of ours.”

The night will finish off with fireworks over the Broadway Bridge after the sun sets at around 10:30pm.

Saskatoon will be experiencing several road closures today to make space for these Canada Day festivities.

Road closures already in place include Spadina Crescent from 2nd Avenue to Broadway Bridge, with several more occurring throughout the day.

Today at 9;00am, the Traffic Bridge, as well as 3rd Avenue from 19th Street to Traffic Bridge, and Victoria Avenue from Traffic Bridge to 11th Street will be closing.

Then, at 7:00pm, Broadway Bridge, Broadway Avenue from Broadway Bridge to 12th Street, and 4th Avenue South from 20th Street to Broadway Bridge wil be closed for fireworks.

The closures are expected to wrap up at 6:00am on Tuesday.
