Saskatoon made numerous accomplishments and broke several records in 2023 in the Community Services Division. General Manager Lynn Lacroix says several key achievements include two completed storm water drain systems, 10 new or upgraded city parks, and the creation of the 10th urban reserve in partnership with the Lac La Ronge Indian Band.
The highlights were shared at a recent Planning, Development and Community Services committee meeting. Lacroix says 535,000 people attended outdoor special events, over 1.1 million people visited a Saskatoon leisure centre, and the Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park and Zoo had record attendance at over 159,000 visitors.
In the recreation department, Holiday Park Golf Course had the highest number of rounds of golf in the entire province, and the Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park and Zoo had record attendance at 159,181 visitors.
“Some other notable accomplishments; the grand opening of the Pawetetan Basketball Court in Victoria Park, the first small dogs off leash parks were opened in Hyde Park and Charlottown Park, and a polit program to help increase access to swimming lessons.”
Twenty-one community clean-up events ensured that 67-thousand kilograms of trash were taken to the landfill.
She also mentioned the development of a new Saskatoon housing strategy and a bus rapid transit system, both of which will continue to be developed in coming years.
