Saskatoon experienced some unseasonably high temperatures yesterday, but the 27.6-degree day still didn’t break any records for this time of year.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Chris Stammers says Saskatoon’s average high for this time of year is 18 degrees, so yesterday was far above normal, however the historical record high for Saskatoon is set just above that, at 27.8 degrees. Although that seems warm for May, Stammers says the record highs in other parts of the province are still several degrees higher for this time of year.
“The record highs for this time of the year are mostly into the thirties now. So, while it’s been really warm and well above normal, we’re not quite at record high levels.”
Stammers says although Saskatoon didn’t break any records, 15 other Saskatchewan locations were at 26 degrees or warmer yesterday as well, which resulted in two historical temperature records being surpassed.
“There were two records set in the province yesterday. Buffalo Narrows and the Waskesiu Lake area just narrowly beat out their old records.”
The daily highs are set to steadily decrease now as Stammers expects some precipitation and possible thunderstorms early in the work week for the southern part of the province.
