The RCMP is providing some weather safety tips to those who find themselves getting behind the wheel this weekend.
Environment Canada is predicting heavy snow, gusty winds, and reduced visibility beginning this afternoon and lasting until late Sunday.
Supt. Grant St. Germaine, says if you can delay travel this weekend, do so. However, if you must travel, remember to check the weather forecast and road conditions along your route before you leave.
Other tips include scraping all the ice off your windows before driving, removing all snow from your vehicle, slowing down on slippery or snowy roads, accelerate and brake gently, avoid using cruise control, stock your vehicle with warm clothes, and if you become stranded on the highway, do not leave your vehicle.
In a situation like this, the RCMP advises you to turn on your vehicle periodically to warm up but try to conserve fuel. The remind you to make sure your tailpipe remains clear of ice and snow, or carbon monoxide could potentially seep into your vehicle.
