A member of the NDP is warning Sask. Party Minister Gene Makowsky of a looming deadline for answers he had promised to provide.
Official Opposition Ethics and Democracy Critic Meara Conway says she has written a letter to Makowsky, the minister of social services, reminding him of the promises he made on January 25th regarding Sask. Party MLA Gary Grewal’s Sunrise Motel.
In late October, the NDP invited an elderly woman, Evelyn Harper, to the legislature to tell her story of being evicted from a government care home. She moved into the Sunrise Motel temporarily and stayed until November 10.
Conway states that Grewal’s motel was rumoured to have twice hiked rates for Harper’s stay, once Makowsky offered to pick up the bill. Conway submitted two freedom of information requests to Makowsky’s office on December 12, and was told that the information requested was proving hard to find. In late January, Makowsky denied withholding the information and promised to release it to the Opposition ‘in a matter of days’ or by February 10, at the latest.
