The business where an explosion took place Wednesday afternoon in Regina was a popular and long-standing restaurant. Luiggi’s Pasta House has been in Regina since 1984.
Regina Fire & Protective Services was called at 4:13 p.m. to the 400 block of Albert Street to a report of a possible blown transformer.
When they arrived, firefighters saw significant damage to the building as well as a fire actively burning in the southwest corner. Firefighters evacuated the building, which contained six businesses. The fire had spread into the attic space, but firefighters were able to bring it under control and contain it quickly. Three individuals suffered minor injuries.
The Department has determined that an explosion occurred within the southwest corner of the building; however, the cause of the explosion is under investigation. SaskEnergy is on scene and assisting in the investigation.
