A 29-year-old man from Squamish, BC, has died following an avalanche in an Alberta provincial park.
The man and a woman were ice climbing in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park on Saturday when they were swept by an avalanche into a gully on the slope below.
The 26-year-old woman was able to dig herself out and use a GPS beacon to signal rescuers around 3:15 P.M. but the man did not survive as he was fully buried.
RCMP say the man’s body was recovered Sunday morning and was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
