As of May of this year, Saskatchewan’s wholesale trade numbers are up 89.8 per cent compared to this time in 2022 according to Statistics Canada.
This jump marks 32 months of consecutive growth, giving the province a total wholesale trade value of $7 billion. Wholesale trade measures the value of goods purchased in bulk with the intention of being sold to resellers.
This can include wheat or lentils, and as of this month, StatsCan now includes petroleum and hydrocarbon products in wholesale trade numbers.
A news release from the provincial government says Saskatchewan has seen growth in other sectors, as well. In the first quarter of this year, the population grew by 6,821. This is the largest population increase in more than a century. Last year, Saskatchewan also led the country in GDP growth at 5.7 per cent.
