This week, five nurses that were recruited from the Philippines are arriving in Saskatchewan.
The nurses are arriving for their in-person training that they must receive before they are allowed to begin their employment with the Saskatchewan Health Authority. Between both missions in the last two years, there have been 400 nurses recruited to work in the province. They are currently moving through the RN pathway where they receive language assessment and training and online and in-person education leading to licensing. The provincial government has also unveiled a new fast-tracking program which shortens licensure timeframes from several months to 14 weeks. Most of these 400 nurses will be in this program.
The newly recruited international nurses are part of the provincial governments Health Human Resources Action Plan to recruit, train, incentivize and retain more health care workers.
