Beginning this weekend and lasting until Wednesday, Saskatoon’s Emergency Managment Organization is activating level two of the Extreme Heat Emergency Response Plan.
The plan will provide residents with access to cooling locations, wellness checks, outreach services, and water distribution. There are several designated cool-down locations throughout the city which families experiencing illness or distress from extreme heat can use. Vulnerable residents will also be supplied with water, and misting tents will provide another option for cooling down. Extreme heat can cause dehydration, exhaustion, and heat stroke.
Saskatoon’s spray parks will also be extending their hours to combat the hot weather. All spray pads will be open from 10:00am to 10:00pm ending on Wednesday. The city-wide cool down locations include the Saskatoon Downtown Youth Centre, the Friendship Inn, Prairie Harm Reduction, and the Bridge on 20th Street.
