The Saskatoon Food Bank is holding the 2023 City-Wide Food Drive this month, and members of the public are encouraged to donate to help feed the thousands of people who visit the food bank each month.
Laurie O’Connor, the SFB’s Executive Director says in March, a record-breaking 24,000 people used the food bank, a number that shows food and gas prices are taking a toll on the wallets of Saskatoon residents.
To make matters worse, 40 per cent of those that use the food bank each month are children, and with school coming to an end, O’Connor is expecting to see an uptick in hungry youth.
The items that the food bank seeks out the most include pasta, tomato sauce, soups, stews, and cereal, as they provide nutrients as well as sustenance. Baby food and formula also high in demand.
O’Connor says all local grocery stores are accepting donations on behalf of the bank, and food can also be dropped off at the Saskatoon Food Bank Avenue C location. Cash donations can be made as well at www.saskatoonfoodbank.org.
