The Saskatoon Dog Rescue is at max capacity during their busy spring season and are encouraging Saskatoon citizens to apply to foster a dog to ease some of the pressure. The organization is currently caring for 89 dogs, and surrender requests keep coming in each day.
Courtney Fisher is the president of the SDR, and she says although fostering a dog is a big commitment, all the food, care products, and veterinary costs are supplied by the SDR, making it easier for more people to do so. Although they are in need of foster homes, the SDR likes to keep foster families within 30 kilometres of Saskatoon, as fosters from farther away find it harder to commute to vet visits and meet and greets with future foster families.
Fisher suggests that fostering is a good introduction if you are on the fence about getting a dog. That way you can try it out temporarily before making that final decision. People in the Saskatoon area can apply to become a foster home at www.saskatoondogrescue.com/foster.
