The snow that the province received on April 19th and 20th is now melting and is impacting the water levels at several water bodies in the Qu-Appelle River System.
The Moose Jaw River and Wascana Creek are receding slower and contributing more volume to the system than expected. Echo Creek is also seeing a peak because of the meltwater, and it is resulting in longer and higher flows than previously expected, as well. Because of these three flows intensifying, water levels at Crooked and Round lakes will be much higher than normal after regular snowmelt. Both lakes will experience one-in-ten-year peak levels, with Round Lake expected to see a 40 centimetre jump from last year, and Crooked Lake seeing a 35 centimetre jump from the peak of spring 2022.
