Jane Jacobs believed that that cities should be designed for people, not for cars. This May, people from all across the globe will be taking part in the 14th Annual Jane’s Walk, as a way to celebrate her life and learn about the communities they live in.
Murray Gross, the Chair of Jane’s Walk Saskatoon, says Jane Jacobs was a US-Canadian urbanist, activist, and journalist who believed in ‘walkable cities’. She thought that when it comes to urban design, people should be the priority instead of cars. Gross adds that there will be about 20 in-person walks taking place across the city, all to serve as a way for people to learn about their city, connect with their neighbours, and share stories about their neighborhoods and communities. He says the walks will be focusing on history, environment, art, food security, urban reserves, orienteering and even ghosts. Details, descriptions, times, and locations are available here for anyone who wishes to join in the fun.
