Today is the National Day of Remembrance of the Battle of Vimy Ridge, and flags at all City of Saskatoon facilities will be flown at half-mast to honour those who fought in the battle on this day in 1917.
The battle was the first time Canadians from all across the country worked together to fight a common enemy and is considered to be Canada’s most celebrated military victory.
The battle is also seen as a symbol of national pride for Canadians, and the beginning of Canada’s journey towards nationhood.
