Both major railways are boasting about moving record tonnes of grain during October—-but the President of Agricultural Producers Association of Saskatchewan takes the numbers with a grain of salt.
CN Rail says it moved 3.23 million tonnes of grain and grain products last month, beating the 2020 mark by 50,000. CP shipped 3.14 million tonnes, surpassing its 2020 mark by more than 100,000 tonnes.
Both CN and CP say grain movement during the final week of October tailed off due to port terminals being at capacity that was caused by rain preventing the loading of ships.
