The NDP’s Corrections and Policing Critic has some concerns about the provincial government’s announcement of a new Marshals Service.

Nicole Sauer says crime is a big concern for many communities, but other provinces have already found the implementing new provincial police forces are costly and ineffective.

She is also concerned about the independence of this force or any police force that would be answerable to the Corrections Ministry, because Sauer believes policing bodies should be independent from government interference.
