The voir dire decision date for the Greg Fertuck murder trial in the death of his estranged wife Sheree Fertuck, was scheduled for September 15th, but in Saskatoon Court of Queen’s Bench today (Wed), that decision was delayed until January 12th. The voir dire, or trial within a trial, is to determine whether evidence from a Mr. Big sting should be admissible. Fertuck is charged with murder and indignity to human remains.
Sheree Fertuck was reported missing in December of 2015, and her body has never been found. The case was ruled a homicide by RCMP in 2016 and Greg Fertuck was arrested in December of 2019.
The trial was first scheduled to begin March 29th of 2021, but because of a COVID-19 outbreak in Regina where some witnesses would be travelling from, it was rescheduled for last September. Then, the voir dire about whether certain evidence was admissible began, and earlier this year was re-opened to include new evidence.
Sheree Fertuck was 51 when she disappeared. She was last seen leaving her family’s farm east of Kenaston. When her semi-truck was found at a local gravel pit, her keys, coat and cell phone were still inside.
