RCMP from Fort Qu’Appelle, Indian Head and White Butte have responded to a train derailment northeast of Regina, near the Hamlet of Edgeley, along with CN crews and environmental experts. CN Rail says in a statement that about 18 railcars have derailed. There is a confirmed small spill of unknown content and there are no reports of any fires. The cause of the incident is under investigation.
RCMP said in a news release earlier this afternoon (Thurs) that initial reports indicated fuel may have leaked from the derailed train cars. A perimeter has been established around the scene and motorists are asked to avoid the area. The derailment is about 3 kilometres west of Edgeley on the 2154 grid, about a kilometre north of Highway 364.
