An annual event on Saturday provides a time to reflect on what it might be like for people experiencing homelessness, hurt, and hunger. The Coldest Night of the Year fundraiser began in Canada in 2011 and it is coming up tomorrow (Sat), with events in Saskatoon, Prince Albert, Regina and Swift Current.

Swift Current’s proceeds go to a youth drop-in centre and for the other three Saskatchewan cities, the funds are for their local YWCAs. Saskatoon YWCA spokesperson, Carla Delgado, says because of COVID-19, Saskatoon’s event won’t be a public gathering. Instead, you will be asked to walk with your family and friends where and when you choose after registering online. You can click on the link through the YWCA of Saskatoon’s website.

Delgado says it’s a perfect fit for their organization, because they have a women’s shelter, a crisis shelter, transitional housing, along with mental health beds and youth programs.
