It was four years ago February 9 that Gerald Stanley was acquitted in the shooting death of Colten Boushie. Boushie’s family continues to call for a public inquiry into the death and the acquittal.

Colten Boushie’s mom, Debbie Baptiste, says four years later we are still waiting for justice for my son and closure, and we are tired of waiting for an answer and an apology from the RCMP, or the follow up from the Prime Minister. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the Justice Minister at the time, Jody Wilson-Raybould denounced the verdict.

The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations says in a statement that the FSIN continues to support Debbie Baptiste and her family, and would like to see systemic changes come from what Chief Bobby Cameron calls a broken justice system that continues to fill their jail cells and institutions with out people. The FSIN advocates for solving the challenge of over-representation and over-incarceration rates of First Nations people in the justice system, and Chief Cameron says addressing the root cause is the answer.

Twenty-two year old Colten Boushie was shot and killed by Gerald Stanley on August 9th of 2016 at a farm near Biggar.
