The City of Saskatoon is offering residents financial help for energy efficient upgrades through the Home Energy Loan Program.

The program provides loans larger home upgrades to reduce energy consumption. These upgrades can include air sealing, replacing windows and doors, improving insulation, heating system upgrades, or solar panel installation. Loans can range from $1,000 – $60,000.

Two of the most common reasons that energy consumption can go up in a household without people realizing it, is from leaks from leaky doors and windows and poor insulation.

Climate Manager for the City of Saskatoon, Amber Weckworth, says 292 projects have been completed through the program since it was launched.

“The program is really aimed at making it easier for Saskatoon homeowners complete those energy efficient or renewal energy upgrades for their home.”

A survey is sent to everyone who completes the program. From the survey 74 per cent said they wouldn’t have completed the upgrades without the financing, and another 22 per cent said they would have completed fewer or less costly upgrades.
