The Saskatoon Airport Authority has posted on their Facebook page saying that no flights are currently taking off or landing at the John G. Diefenbaker Airport in Saskatoon due to the Alberta clipper that is also creating for some poor road conditions both in Saskatoon and on a number of highways throughout the province.
The City of Saskatoon issued a news release late Monday afternoon advising motorists to avoid using Claypool Drive when entering Hampton Village in the city’s northwest. “The blown in snow is too deep for vehicles and visibility is too low for crews to safely plow the street at this time.” said the release. The City also says other streets near wide open spaces may be experiencing similar drifting problems.
Parts of Saskatoon were experiencing near zero visibility conditions Monday afternoon with several multi-vehicle accidents reported to police, including an accident involving more than twelve vehicles. The Saskatoon Police Service responded to Claypool Drive and Airport Drive, where this accident occurred. No injuries have been reported. The Police Service advises if travel is necessary, slow down and increase the distance between you and the vehicle in front of you.
A member of the RCMP phoned the CJWW Newsroom around 4:30 Monday afternoon stating that Highway 41 between Aberdeen and Alvena is closed due to an accident and are advising motorists to avoid the area as there is no alternate route for traffic. There are also reports of a pile-up on Highway 16 near Langham.
As of 4:45 Monday afternoon, a number of roads in and out of Saskatoon including Highways 16, 41 and 14 are closed.

A blizzard warning was issued for Saskatoon early Monday afternoon. The RCMP sent out a news release Monday afternoon advising motorists to avoid unnecessary travel as road conditions are deteriorating. “Drivers should be prepared for anything: consider stocking your vehicle with extra warm clothes, candles, matches, non-perishable snacks, a snow shovel, traction mats, booster cables and a tow rope or chain.” said the Saskatchewan RCMP.
