A seniors building located near the watermain break that flooded Kinsmen Park on Friday has been the subject of urgent messages Saturday night on a local Facebook site Caremongering Saskatoon. Concerned residents in the city who witnessed seniors from King Edward Place at 530 25th Street East struggling to fill water containers, from the water truck outside, stopped to help. However, they note that even if the seniors fill the containers, many can’t carry them back anyway. And one woman who’s mother is in the building says she and her sister can help their mom, but many of the residents don’t even have something to put the water in, if they could take it back to their apartments. Both the Emergency Measures department with the City of Saskatoon as well as the Saskatoon Housing Authority were contacted by concerned members of Caremongering Saskatoon. The city apparently directed them to the Housing Authority but then went the next step and also contacted the Housing Authority. Word late last night was that a safety plan would be in place by 9 a.m. Sunday morning. The seniors who couldn’t haul water would have been left without water to drink, wash or flush toilets since the watermain break on Friday around 7 a.m.
