The Government of Saskatchewan is reminding residents, landlords and property owners to ensure their buildings meet the new carbon monoxide requirements. Henry’s Law takes effect on November 1, 2026.
Eleven-year-old Henry Losco died December 19, 2025, from carbon monoxide poisoning while in the family’s suite in the apartment building and his father was taken to hospital in critical condition.
Regina fire officials say the incident was caused “by a boiler that experienced significant internal failure, resulting in a substantial release of carbon monoxide.”
Announced earlier this year, Henry’s Law expands existing CO requirements by mandating alarms in all residential suites, regardless of their proximity to fuel-burning appliances within a building.
In a news release Government Relations Minister Eric Schmalz said, “Henry’s Law is about preventing future tragedies and ensuring Saskatchewan residents have the protection they need from the dangers of carbon monoxide in their homes.”
