It’s my Parting Shot for my Monday Musings…..
Between being on the air on Friday and traveling from Edmonton to Calgary on Saturday, I didn’t get to see very much of the final weekend worth of play in the C-F-L. The only game of real consequence and/or drama was the late Friday night affair in which Winnipeg rallied to victory and a playoff spot with back-up quarterback Dru Brown at the controls. Zach Collaros was knocked out of the contest and Brown took advantage of what Collaros seemingly couldn’t – a Lions’ squad that wasn’t playing any of their top people!
The Calgary Stampeders are saying, thanks for nothing B-C – but the Stamps have only themselves to blame for being a 9-9 team, scoring the most points of any team, but continually shooting themselves in the foot at key points in the games they lost!
A lot was made of Saturday being the last game at Mosaic Stadium with a 55-yard line, 20-yard end zones and goal posts located on the goal line as the C-F-L is set to make those cosmetic changes to some of their most iconic rules for 2027. Yeah, it’s going to be strange next year and I don’t like it, but it’s not like the DEED here in Saskatoon where outrage can be heard by signing a petition that league commissioner Stewart Johnston can’t ignore. There’s a lot of brave talk on social media that fans will boycott watching the C-F-L next year. I’ll believe it when I see it!
As for the Riders, since I didn’t see the game and won’t be able to until later this week, I can’t comment on what went on in the 16-9 victory over Edmonton. But, I will have lots to say tomorrow in this space with regards to being in the West Division semi-final this coming Saturday in B-C as opposed to traveling to Toronto for the East semi-final as the Blue Bombers will have to!
What I did get to watch, at least a lot more of than I got to watch the C-F-L, was the Toronto Maple Leafs dismantling the Oilers right in Edmonton by a 7-2 score. That took a lot of shine off the Oil’s 8-1-1 start to the season before that. I know it’s early, but the Leafs and Ottawa, surprisingly, occupy N-H-L playoff spots right now – along with Edmonton and Montreal, both of whom are supposed to be in the post-season!
That’s my Parting Shot. I’m Les Lazaruk in Red Deer with the Blades…and it turned out nice again!
