This is Vanese Ferguson with Coffee Talk. So, I finally got rid of our landline this year. I held on to it because I preferred using it to talk to my Mom. Then I realized most of the time I put my ear buds in and I chat with her when walking the dog. However, the internet/Bluetooth/Wi-Fi at my place despite the fact that I believe I am paying for the best you can get, is sucky. I can’t go into the laundry room or past it, in my basement, to talk to my mom on the cell phone. If I’m doing a Zoom call – doesn’t seem work in the living room on my laptop. I can’t go into the garage or the driveway and talk on my cell. It’s like there’s a dead zone around my property. And not having a landline is beneficial in this time where we cherish privacy. I got the latest Saskatoon phone book and am glad to know going forward my name and number isn’t in it. I rabidly guard my cell phone number because I do not want unsolicited calls. As far as I’m concerned, a cell phone is only for those who know you and who you have given your number to. And I don’t know why we still have a phone book. The only people who would reference it are about my age and older and I’m now at the stage where I couldn’t read it anyway unless I had reading glasses. And the other thing about the cell phone is how often I misplace it. Because it is at work with me I turn it off so beep or buzz or ring while I’m on the air. And here I am today – no phone. Could be on the kitchen counter. Could be on a crate in the garage because I had my hands full trying to find my keys to find my keys to get into the vehicle. The one upside to a landline. I always knew where it was.
