It was a milestone night for the 61-year-old franchise known as the Saskatoon Blades.

The Bridge City Bunch never trailed and topped the Regina Pats 5-2 Saturday night at SaskTel Centre for the 2,000th regular-season victory in the team’s history. David Lewandowski, Cooper Williams and Hayden Harsanyi each registered a goal and an assist as the Blue and Gold improved their early-season record to 4-2-1 before 3,403 fans. Hunter Laing and Konstantin Hutzinger also tallied for the Blades with Hutzinger’s goal being his first in the W-H-L. Kazden Mathies added two assists while Martin Psohlavec (pictured) stopped 36 of 38 shots, including all 22 Regina drives in the third period. Saskatoon was 2-for-7 on the power play with both man advantage scores coming after the Pats had tied the score at 1-1 early in the second period. The victory was the second at home in as many nights for Saskatoon, both against East Division rivals as the Bridge City Bunch out-scored Moose Jaw 7-4 on Friday. The Blue and Gold’s early-season University-style schedule resumes Friday with a visit to Swift Current.
