Big River RCMP responded to a report of a firearm being discharged in the direction of a vehicle parked at a residential property. There were no injuries and the parked vehicle was not damaged.
The suspects fled in a vehicle that was located a short time later in a parking lot in nearby Debden. RCMP turned on their cruiser’s emergency equipment, but the vehicle fled north on Highway 55. It eventually went into the ditch and three of the four occupants fled on foot. The fourth was arrested on the scene. A police dog tracked down the other three who were also arrested.
During a search of the vehicle, officers located one loaded firearm, one unloaded firearm and ammunition.
Thirty-nine-year-old Shane Bear from the Big River First Nation is charged with flight from a police officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, several weapons offences and two counts of failing to comply with release order conditions
Thirty-eight-year-old Barry Morin and 36-year-old Gary Swiftwolfe from the Big River First Nation and 34-year-old Jacob Verhey from Debden face various weapons-related charges.
