The head-to-head losing streaks to the arch-rival Prince Albert Raiders are over for the Saskatoon Blades.
After ending a run of eight consecutive setbacks to the Raiders, playoffs included, with Friday night’s 3-2 triumph in P-A, the Bridge City Bunch followed up with a 5-2 triumph Saturday in their home-opener in front of 7,379 fans at SaskTel Centre. It was the Blue and Gold’s first home-ice win over the Raiders since September 20, 2025, after which Prince Albert won five straight times in Saskatoon. It was, also, the sixth consecutive win in the franchise’s first home game of a new season. Right winger Hunter Laing (pictured) scored twice – his first goal late in the second period snapped a 1-1 tie and put the Blades ahead for good. For a second straight night, David Lewandowski was credited with the game winning goal while Hayden Harsanyi and Kazden Mathies also connected for the Bridge City Bunch – now 2-1-1 to start the season. Mathies goal was into an empty net while the Blades were short-handed. Lewandowski added an assist for a two-point game while Cooper Williams chipped in a pair of helpers. Riley Boychuk and Connor Howe replied for the 1-3-0 Raiders, who were out-shot 29-26. For a second straight night, Martin Psohlavec for the Blue and Gold out-duelled P-A’s Michal Orsulak in goal – each stopping 24 shots. Saskatoon is off until Friday when they play the second of four straight home games, hosting the Red Deer Rebels at 7 o’clock at SaskTel Centre.
