The SIRT report said the teen went to a home in Saskatoon on the evening of the 23rd. Around 1:10am on the following morning, Warman RCMP reported a truck driving on Highway 16 near Saskatoon without its taillights on. Officers made a U-turn to stop the vehicle, but it accelerated away. RCMP did not pursue the vehicle and shared the vehicle’s description and heading over police radio.
An RM of Corman Park service member said he would travel into the area towards Langham. Around 1:23am, the officer saw a truck matching the description, which was reportedly travelling at 110 km/hr without its lights on. The truck pulled onto a back road near Langham and through a ditch into the field. Officers decided not to continue engaging the truck, saying it was unlikely the driver could get very far because it was raining heavily.
The teenager’s family reported him missing on the 25th and his body was discovered in the lagoon later that day.
The SIRT report said that at some point after the truck stopped, the teenager left the vehicle and died, “as a result of acute cocaine intoxication”.
