Phase one is over – now it’s on to Phase two for the Saskatoon Blades!
Roman Shynkaruk broke a 3-3 tie and Team Makarov won the annual Kirkness Cup – Saskatoon Blades training camp scrimmage tournament Sunday at SaskTel Centre by a 6-3 score over Team Chappell. Max Hartel – a 16-year-old expected to be in the competitive mix to claim the Number 2 spot on the Bridge City Bunch in goal – stopped all 16 shots he faced in the second half of the game. Earlier, Team Green edged Team Belak 4-3 in the third place game. Moving forward, the pre-season schedule begins Tuesday at SaskTel Centre as the Blue and Gold tangle with the arch-rival Prince Albert Raiders in a “rookie game.” First face-off is 2 o’clock.
