New Statistics Canada data shows that Canada’s job market may not be as bad as previously thought.

This past July Canada added 75,000 jobs to the work force, helping to move the national unemployment rate down to 6.4 per cent. Stats Canada stated that this is the lowest unemployment rate the country has seen in two years.

Canada’s Youth unemployment is a different story, holding at 12.6 per cent.

Moving on to the province, Saskatchewan is seeing similar gains, with their unemployment rate falling to 6 per cent. The Provincal Goverment stated in a release that Saskatchewan holds the third-lowest unemployment rate in Canada. Youth unemployment in the province surpassed 12 per cent this time around.

Saskatchewan was also reported to have added 2,600 jobs compared to last year.

In light of this data, the provincial NDP pointed out the 117 jobs that will be impacted because of the curtailing of the Sawmill in Big River. The NDP also brought up the 2,900 full-time jobs lost last month in Yorkton, Swift Current, Moose Jaw and Prince Albert.
