Since it appears as though the traffic citation text scammers aren’t letting up, Saskatchewan RCMP has decided to, once again, warn the public – Don’t Click the Link!

According to a Saskatchewan RCMP news release, a recent cluster of reports of scam text messages in the Prince Albert area prompted this renewed warning to the public. By way of review, the messages claim that recipients have an outstanding traffic citation, then tells the recipients to click a link and submit payment online, falsely identifying the sender of the text as the Provincial Court of Saskatchewan. Police say the messages come from a phone number with a “+44” area code and are not legitimate. Text recipients are urged to not click on any of the links in the messages and to not send payment or personal information. Saskatchewan RCMP continue to investigate and add that if you are unsure of the legitimacy of a text message or believe you are the victim of fraud, to contact your local RCMP detachment at 310-RCMP and/or report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre. If you have received a scam text like this – don’t text them back, block their phone number immediately and keep records of their texts.
