Highways Minister Kim Gartner took Friday to highlight some highway work in the province, while also reminding drivers to stay alert and be patient.
The highlighted projects includes:
- Wakaw south – An estimated $27.2 million project will see more than 17 km of Highway 2 between Wakaw and Cudworth rebuilt and two culverts replaced following by paving. Grading work is currently underway on the project. Tree clearing work began the week of March 30 with roadwork starting mid May. The entire project is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.
- Wakaw north – The ministry will invest $2.7 million to improve about six kilometres of Highway 2 north of Wakaw. The work involves paving and began May 19. Paving has now been completed with final project completion expected by late fall 2026.
- Rosthern west – About $800,000 was invested to replace three culverts for Highway 312 about 13 km west of Rosthern. Work began June 17 and was completed July 9.
- St. George’s Hill area – About $100,000 in repairs began and were completed in June on Highway 925 bridge over the Dillon River. The project included installation of steel pier piles to address damage caused by ice during spring run-off.
Project timelines are subject to change based on weather and other circumstances.
Gartner said in a news release, “Drive to current conditions, pay attention to the road ahead and obey all construction signs and flag persons, as our crews and contractors work to improve our highway network. We want everyone to get home safely.”
The Highways Minister also used the opportunity to encourage drivers to check the Highway Hotline for information about disruptions on highways, such as construction, fires, flooding or other incidents, and the status of ferries.
