River rescue update
The Saskatoon Fire Department says over the weekend fire crews conducted riverbank and water searches using dive operations and sonar scans in an effort to locate a person and a dog believed to have been in the South Saskatchewan River on Friday.
The call came at 3:37 p.m. and despite efforts of emergency personnel the individual and dog were not located consequently the search has been suspended pending any new information.
The scene has been turned over to Saskatoon Police Service for further investigation.
Arrest – vehicle driving the wrong way
The Saskatoon Police Service says police were called to the area of Highway 5 and Highway 41 after receiving a report of an erratic driver travelling on the wrong side of the road.
This was around 1:45 p.m. Monday and as officers were responding further updates stated the vehicle was at College Drive and Central Avenue. Police located a suspect vehicle westbound on College Drive and initiated a traffic stop.
The driver of the vehicle was arrested shortly after. Through further investigation, officers say she had provided the wrong identity, that she was wanted on multiple outstanding warrants and that the vehicle she was driving had been reported stolen.
A 26-year-old woman has been charged with Obstructing Police, Fraudulently Personating another Person, Dangerous Driving and Failure to Comply with Court-Imposed Conditions.
Death investigation in Eastview
A police presence by John Dolan school Sunday morning started as a report of a person sleeping outside in the 3100 block of Arlington Avenue.
The Saskatoon Police Service says officers arrived and a located a man who was not conscious and not breathing.
Officers attempted life-saving measures; however, the 61-year-old man was pronounced deceased shortly after paramedics arrived on scene.
The Saskatchewan Coroners Service and Saskatoon Police are continuing to investigate in relation to this death.
Business theft becomes evade police incident
The Saskatoon Police Service says a fleeing vehicle believed involved with a theft from a business hit another vehicle.
Around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of Preston Avenue to investigate the theft. The caller said a female suspect was in a vehicle in the parking lot.
The vehicle was leaving as police arrived and while police activated their emergency lights and tried to pull it over the driver didn’t stop – that’s when it hit another vehicle and sped off.
Officers disengaged but shortly after spotted the suspect vehicle unoccupied and left running. Two suspects were arrested shortly after and police say the vehicle had been reported stolen.
A 30-year-old woman and a 38-year-old woman have both been charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000 and Theft. The 30-year-old has also been charged with Dangerous Driving, Evading Police and Failure to Stop at the Scene of a Collision.
